| Stripping For Harry |
posted 28 Nov 2001 |
With Harry Potter opening in Oz tomorrow, I wait with bated breath for scenes of excitement to
rival the one that took place at Philadelphia's Riverview multiplex... Kiddies lining up
to buy their tickets for a Sunday session were treated to the spectacle of a 20-something woman racing into the foyer,
stripping down to her underwear and raving on about "dicks"... One bemused bystander remarked,
'Is this not the trashiest movie theater you have ever seen, or what?'

| The Triumphant Return Of Bad Taste TV News ! |
posted 28 Nov 2001 |
It looks like America has finally gotten over "the new seriousness" that was meant to accompany its post-WTC trauma...
According to LA Times' Steve Lopez, BAD TASTE IS BACK WITH A VENGEANCE! Britney Spears and J Lo are back
at the top of local news bulletins (where they belong!) and stories about Afghanistan have turned their
focus to issues like getting Playboy bunnies up to the frontline to entertain the troops.

| Why Is There So Much Sex on Film Cement? |
posted 28 Nov 2001 |
Some of you may have noticed the disproportionately high number of postings on Film Cement
that relate in some way to sex. Most of you will probably put this down to me being a sexually-frustrated geek.
Well, there is some truth in that, but there is also a more serious purpose behind the ongoing prurience
of this site... The results of Ansell's annual survey of global sexual activity are out, and Australia's performance in it
is frankly deplorable. (I mean, even the Kiwis are getting their ends in more than we are!) As a consequence,
I consider it my patriotic duty to keep the minds of my readers in the gutter; in the hope that this may help in some small way
to fire up our dormant national loins... Come On Australia! Start Rooting For Your Country!
(PS : I'm glad I wasn't approached to take part in the survey. It might have pushed the national average down even further...)

| Interactive Adult Cinema At MIT |
posted 28 Nov 2001 |
Over at the envelope-pushing Media Lab at MIT, they've set up a research department called the
Erotic Computation Group devoted to developing 'advanced sexual appliances and techniques.
Among their numerous projects, the one that really captured our imagination was Sheel Dhande's work
on interactive adult cinema. According to the brief, 'As the nature of the cinematic experience changes even further,
Sheel will continue to keep adult films on the forefront, offering such titillating options as multithreaded evolutionary
pornography that adapts to interactions with its audience'...

| Skinema : Dermatology In Cinema |
posted 28 Nov 2001 |
One area of film criticism on the web that rarely receives the attention it deserves is the medical film buff site, where medicos
"dissect" films from the perspective of their field of expertise... Skinema: Dermatology in the Cinema
is a particularly fine example of this phenomenon. Not only does it include detailed descriptions of the
skin conditions of celebrities, it also gives you the chance to vote for your favourite!

| Harry Potter Comes Out Of The Closet |
posted 28 Nov 2001 |
In the never-ending quest for subtext, someone has finally teased out a gay angle on Harry Potter.
And it makes sense too... After all, he's a boy who is somehow 'different' and is forced to live in a closet. Eventually, however,
'he leaves his hostile home and finds a new community of people with a similar
background in a healthy, thriving environment where they wear fabulous gowns and practice forbidden rituals'...

| While We Were Obsessing About War And Terrorism... |

The boffins were quietly working away... A company in the US has just announced that it has cloned a human embryo. Although this is not the first time
that such a claim has been made, it is regarded as the first one to come from a credible source... And isn't it ironic
that such an announcement is being made just as Hollywood is preparing to bombard us with images of wizards,
cuddly monsters, hobbits, goblins and elves?...

| All Your Tourist Guy Are Belong To Us |
posted 26 Nov 2001 |
To become a celebrity in this networked world, apparently all you need is a well chosen image and few
Photoshop skills... Hungarian Peter Guzli emailed around a picture of himself that was supposedly taken
on top of the WTC a few moments before the first plane collided, and in no time at all, he was everywhere -
in JFK's car, in front of an exploding Hindenburg, at the Last Supper, and even in scenes from Speed,
Star Wars and The Matrix... Now the geeks have paid him the ultimate compliment - they've
included his likeness in an All Your Base Are Belong To Us rock video!
