| Film Cement On Holidays Till Mid October (Or There Abouts) |
posted 22 Sept 2001 |
I'm afraid this will be the last posting on Film Cement for a while. As many of you know, I've been made redundant
so I've decided to take a little break and head off on a trip across this great country of ours. When I return,
I will also need to find a new home for this site, so there probably won't be any new postings till the middle of
October.

| Propaganda Film Gallery |
posted 22 Sept 2001 |
As the world gears up for a 'new kind of war for a new century', no doubt we will start seeing a very old form of homefront weapon return
to the cinema - the propaganda film. To get you ready for the onslaught of images depicting 'our swarthy, slavering enemy', here's a selection
of propaganda films featuring examples from World War I, Nazi Germany, World War II, and the Cold War.

| Webgirls Auction Underwear For Charity |
posted 22 Sept 2001 |
Remember the web cam girls, that online community of young women who 'show a little skin'
in return for presents?... Well, it seems that they too were deeply affected by the events of September 11, and so they have decided to
set up an online charity auction to raise funds for the American Red Cross. Among the items that you
can bid for in this auction are used underwear and - ahem - toys... I know their hearts are in the right place, but this does
seem a wee bit tacky...

| A Chance To Get Naked In Melbourne |
posted 22 Sept 2001 |
Spencer Tunick is a photographer. He takes black-and-white images of naked people in public places individuals, pairs, groups of people in their hundreds.
He doesn't use models: he approaches strangers in the street. This fascinating art project is now the subject
of a documentary called Naked States that recently had its Australian premiere at the Lumiere cinema in Melbourne.
As an added bonus for all exhibitionist Melburnians, the man himself is coming to the city and plans to have a mass nude shoot at dawn
on Sunday Oct 10.

| James Woods & The 'Suspicious' Mid-Eastern Air Passengers |
posted 22 Sept 2001 |
About a month ago, James Woods was on a flight from Boston to LA when he noticed four men - apparently of Middle
Eastern origin - who were acting 'suspiciously'. Namely, they ate nothing, drank nothing, and made no attempt to make
themselves comfortable. Instead, they sat bolt upright for the entire flight, stared straight ahead, and only spoke
to one another in 'hushed tones'... At the time, flight crew and airport authorities dismissed Mr Woods' concerns (obviously
taking him a paranoid loon). Now, however, the FBI is taking this incident very seriously indeed...

| Jackie Chan Is A Very Lucky Man |
posted 22 Sept 2001 |
This beats even Thorpie's story about forgetting his camera... Jackie Chan was scheduled to shoot scenes for his latest movie in which he plays a window washer
at 7:00am on September 11 - at the top of one of the World Trade Centre towers. As luck would have it, shooting was cancelled because of a late
script. 'Well, I guess my time is not up yet', mused Jackie in the aftermath...

| Pan-Network Americathon ! Where's Bob Hope ? |
posted 20 Sept 2001 |
Yahoo! TV has announced that this Friday all networks in the US will be showing a 2 hour telethon to raise
funds for victims of the WTC attack. The line-up is a stellar one indeed, featuring Bon Jovi, Jim Carrey, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Robert DeNiro, Clint Eastwood, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Will Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Robin Williams, Stevie Wonder and Neil Young - just to name a few!
(Interestingly enough though, there is a conspicuous lack of Arab-American celebrities like Tony Shaloub)...
Hmm, I wonder if Bon Jovi will get to perform 'Dead or Alive'?

| Media Hoax Of The Week |
posted 20 Sept 2001 |
In an attempt to undermine Western anger at scenes of Palestinians celebrating after the WTC attack, a Brazilian student came out and claimed that this footage
was actually shot in 1991 when Iraq invaded Kuwait!... The only problem is that Kuwait was invaded in 1990, and some
observers noted makes of car in the footage that did not exist in 1991. Eventually, the student admitted that he had
been duped by one of his teachers... Sorry, but there really are better ways of combatting anti-Palestinian feeling than starting up lame media hoaxes...

| Mixmaster Micheal Caine |
posted 20 Sept 2001 |
It turns out that Micheal Caine is an 'expert in modern music, especially chill' and is hatching plans to put that expertise
to good use by releasing a 'chill-out' album. It will be titled Mike's Mix
and will be produced by Mike's record producer buddy, Mickie Most... Just what we need ease our minds in
these troubled times... (via Anthony)

posted 20 Sept 2001 |
Action: A war hardened soldier teams up with an alcoholic ex-CIA agent to save the earth from aliens.

By the end of the movie they blow up 2,000,000 bad guys and end up winning the admiration of their world,
living happily ever after... This was produced using the Plot-O-Matic, a great little online device that
will come up with screenplay concepts for you. (Thanks to Anthony for this.)

Eric Bana To Play The Incredible Hulk ? |
posted 20 Sept 2001 |
Time to venture out into the world beyond Manhattan... The Age reports that Eric Bana is the frontrunner to play the lead
role in Ang Lee's production of The Incredible Hulk. As he showed in Chopper, Bana has
a natural talent for playing lumbering psychopaths so he's perfect for the role...
If he is cast, Film Cement hopes they let him flop out a prosthetic green schlong at some point in the film.
